This issue celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Rural Electrification Administration (REA), which was created in 1935 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. At that time, only one farm in ten had electricity. Since 1935, the REA has approved over $60 billion in loans to assist millions with electrical and telephone service.
